Pet food is so bad, even doctors are worried about it, according to a vet.
Dr. Jennifer Eberhard said she’s been caring for a family of three with a pet rabbit named Peppermint.
Her husband, Michael, has a cat and dog, too, but their pet rabbit is her favorite.
Michael Eberhart is a veterinarian who works in Riverside, California.
When he started working at Mercy Health Partners, his work was done by phone, he said.
He’s never seen a crisis like this, he told the station.
Mercy Health Partners in Riverside says it’s working to stop the spread of pet food poisoning.
Its president and CEO, Susan K. Schoenfeld, told ABC News that pet food manufacturers are responsible for their own food and that the FDA should step in.
She said that while many companies are trying to keep their pet foods safe, pet food companies are taking responsibility for their ingredients.
The FDA’s Office of Dietary Supplements says that manufacturers should avoid the use of ingredients that are potentially toxic to pets.
In an email to ABC News, Schoenfeld said that veterinarians and other professionals have seen this type of poisoning firsthand.
“When we see a family suffering from food poisoning, we call the emergency hotline for a vet,” she wrote.
We are fortunate to have an emergency team that can respond quickly to cases that involve a pet food ingredient.””
But many times, a vet will treat a case and return to the family.

The USDA has been monitoring pet food products for about two decades, according a spokesperson.
In February, it sent out a press release noting that it was monitoring about 7,000 pet food ingredients.
A spokeswoman for the USDA said that in 2015, it received about 9,000 complaints about pet food contamination, which were determined to be related to food that was prepared before January.
That was up from 7,800 complaints in 2013, according the spokesperson.
The agency also said that the agency received about 4,400 complaints about food products prepared before June 30, 2017.
The agency also noted that in the last three months, the agency had received 1,200 complaints about contaminated pet food.
Mercer Health Partners and Mercy Health said that they were working to change the way pet food brands were manufactured and sold.
In a statement to ABC, Schoeff said that “this situation is not a situation of an outlier, but of an epidemic.”
In a statement, Mercy Health, the manufacturer of Peppermint and other pet food-related products, said that it has been working with federal and state authorities to improve safety.
“We’re committed to ensuring that we have a safe environment for all of our animals, and that we take all necessary actions to ensure that the pet food that we make is safe to eat,” the statement read.
The company said it is also looking at new safety protocols to ensure pet food does not contain any dangerous ingredients.
