Pet food that doesn’t have too much sugar and that’s easy to digest is a superfood.
But what if it’s not super?
In the first part of this series we explored what is and isn’t a super food, and what the best sources are for the ingredients.
We now explore the other ingredients in pet food, what they’re for, and where they come from.
The ingredientsWe’ll start with a simple one.
Pet food ingredients are made from a mixture of plant and animal proteins and are usually labelled with a scientific name (sometimes the ingredients are just called ‘possible ingredients’ or ‘substances’).
This is how you can tell if a food has any of the ingredients in it: it’s usually labelled in letters or numbers.
For example, a product labelled as ‘high protein’ might contain ‘protein hydrolysate’, which means that there are hydrolysates in the ingredients, such as the soy protein and cornstarch.
Protein hydrolyses are the building blocks of protein and other protein molecules, but are used in the manufacturing of animal-based proteins.
The most common proteins are made of amino acids and their derivatives, so proteins made from these are called ‘protein-rich’ foods.
There are also some other common ingredients, including vitamins, minerals and other trace elements, as well as vitamins, antioxidants and flavourings.
Most pet food companies list ingredients for the most common nutrients and vitamins they need.
Some also list what their ingredients are meant to be used for.
For instance, a ‘high fibre’ product might contain wheat gluten, which is made from the starch of grains.
But if you look on a product label, the label will say it’s made from ‘fiber-rich ingredients’.
You can use this to find the ingredients you’re looking for.
For example, if you search for ‘high fiber’ on Amazon, you’ll find lots of food products with high fibre ingredients.
This will give you a general idea of what the ingredients might be used in.
But some products have a lot of ingredients and not enough ingredients to be called a high fibre food.
These are called the ‘dietary high’ foods, which are more expensive than a food that’s not a high fiber one, but still good for you if you’re in the market for a high protein food.
The best source for ingredientsYou’ll also find a list of ingredients from the pet food industry, and the ingredients themselves, on the Food Safety Authority of Australia website.
This can give you an idea of where ingredients come from and where you can buy them.
For some of the products on the list, the ingredients can be found in the supermarket; for others, it’s hard to find them.
You can also check the ingredients on the ingredient list for each food you’re considering buying, or search online.
You’ll also be able to find ingredients in the pet store, as you search on your pet food website.
The ingredient listMost of the ingredient lists on the FSA website are based on the ingredients’ scientific names, so it’s easy for you to find out what’s in the ingredient.
But it’s also worth checking the ingredients names on the package, as many of the lists are just a list for the label.
For some ingredients, the ingredient label may have different information than what’s listed on the website.
For instance, in some products, the food’s ingredients are listed in the food safety section, and it’s the section you should be looking at.
For other ingredients, like the vitamins and minerals listed on their ingredients, you may need to use the ingredient information on the product label to see what they contain.
For the most up-to-date ingredient list, go to the Food and Drug Regulations website.
